WW1 part review :)

World War I Part 1 Review

Directions: Under each complete the phrase, answer the question, fill in the blank, or define the definition.

How does nationalism influence countries in the early 1900’s? Europeans believed they should express nationalism of a single group in country and believed best nation should come out ahead. For many countries Indus output, trade, and, possessions of empires were yardstick of greatness.

What is militarism? How does it influence Europe in the early 1900’s? The European leaders, war was going to happen so to prepare increased size of military.

Triple Alliance- Germany, Italy, Austria Hungary

Triple Entente- Russia, GB, and France

How does the war start? The assassination of Franz Ferdinand of Austria by Serbians led chain reaction of alliances leading to war.

Why does the war become a stalemate? Germany pushes quickly into France where is it was stalemated when both sides moved to trenches and used machine guns to defeat attacks.

How does the US become involved in the war? When Germany attacked natural Belgium and the way Germans acted in Belgium. Then, when Germany sent a telegram known as the “Zimmerman Telegram” trying to give the US a surprise attack and Mexico on their side.


BR: Why did the US shift its position from neutrality to involvement. Germany attacked Belgium which was a netural country at the time, once Germany invaded Belgium and acted rough and mean towards them, the US did not like it. Then, Germany sent a telegram to Mexico saying if they could fight the US and if they win then Germany would side with them to get the countries the US took.

Why might the Germans have destroyed Louvain? It was to Antagonize the United States.
