Why was there tension between Mexicans and the American settlers to Texas? The tension was because the settlers stayed Protestants and they still used slavery. The Mexicans were Roman Catholics and they did not like that the settlers would not convert and their use of slavery

Describe the Battle of the Alamo and why it was fought? It was the rebellion of Texas to gain their independence from Mexico and they did not want to be under the ruling of Santa Ana. But the Battle of Alamo was lost and Mexico came in to take over.

Describe Sam Houston’s defeat of Santa Ana: Sam Houston defeats Santa Ana and captures him in the Battle of Jacinto. They force him to watch Texas gain their independence and sign the treaty that gave them more land than traditional boundaries.

Describe the US’s annexation of Texas: When Sam Houston becomes president by Texas and he asked the US to give annexation to Texas. During that time Jackson was president and agrees with him but Congress did not favor it.

Describe how Polk provokes the Mexican’s into war: Polk endorse Texas claim of all territory that was surrendered by Santa Ana. He sends some troops into contested region waiting on conflict so he could declare war.
Describe the Military aspects of the Mexican American War: The US won almost every battle including the seizing of New Mexico, California, Monterrey, Mexican Port, and Veracruz.

Describe what the US gets from the Treaty ending the Mexican American War: The war gave the US the border at Rio Grande, Cali, and New Mexico. Polk thought that what they gave the US was little but had to accept because Congress would not support a long war.

Bell Ringer: What would it be like to be in the Middle of such a Battle? It would be very scary to go through that situation, not knowing what to do and being rushed to safety but others. It brings so much commotion plus destruction that people could get killed by the commotion of it all.
